The EIA projects higher distillate fuel consumption in 2017 and 2018 as US freight tonnage has risen year on year since October 2016. Diesel-engine freight is the main driver of middle-distillate demand.
Rising freight volumes point to stronger diesel demand, which supports prices if supply does not keep pace.
