Cargill will load part of a 50,000-tonne vessel in South Australia instead of Geelong to avoid congestion caused by rail train cancellations in Victoria. The vessel will be loaded in two stages, with 25,000 tonnes in Adelaide and 25,000 tonnes in Geelong.
Industry sources say lost rail capacity for the week could exceed 50,000 tonnes.
Diverting export loading to South Australia shows that Victorian port constraints are redirecting grain flows and freight. Larger rail losses would tighten port capacity and increase demand for alternative logistics.
