A Chatham House report says policymakers must act now to reduce the risk of severe disruption at key ports, straits and inland transport routes carrying maize, wheat, rice and soybeans. It notes that three crops supply about 60 percent of food energy and soybeans supply 65 percent of global protein feed.
The report underscores structural vulnerability in the transport networks that move feed grains and protein meal, which supports a risk premium in freight and could amplify price spikes during any disruption.
