USDA announced that an atypical BSE case was detected in an 11-year-old cow at an Alabama livestock market. The animal never entered slaughter channels and posed no risk to the food supply, and APHIS and Alabama officials are gathering more information.
The case is expected to be a non-event for cattle markets since atypical BSE is not linked to contaminated feed and the animal was not slaughtered, so price pressure should be minimal.
