China's agricultural imports reached $61.2 billion in the first half of 2017, up 14.5 percent year on year, while exports were $34.9 billion. Oilseed imports were $20.8 billion, up 26.2 percent, and wheat and barley imports rose sharply while corn and sorghum imports plunged.
Strong Chinese oilseed demand supports soybean prices, and higher wheat and barley imports add demand for those grains. The drop in corn and sorghum imports weighs on those markets.
