Highly pathogenic H7N9 avian influenza was detected at two Tennessee poultry farms in March 2017, according to a study published in Emerging Infectious Diseases. The research found multiple introductions of low-pathogenicity virus that mutated before spreading between farms.
This is a retrospective account of a past outbreak, so it adds little new supply information; it only reinforces the need for ongoing surveillance in US poultry.
