The FAO Food Price Index averaged 168 points in April, down 1.8 percent from March but 10 percent above a year earlier. Sugar and vegetable oil indices led the decline, while the cereal index fell 1.2 percent on lower wheat prices and the meat index rose 1.7 percent.
Falling vegetable oil and wheat prices lower feed input costs, while maize strength and higher pigmeat prices support livestock feed demand and meat prices.
