China Grain and Oil Information Center projects China will import 95 million metric tons of soybeans in 2017/18. Imports are expected to rise by 3.5 to 4.0 million tons per year, reaching 110 million tons by 2022.
Sustained growth in Chinese soybean imports supports global soybean demand and the crush margin for soybean meal. The projection is a long-range estimate that depends on China's domestic production and feed demand.
