The Colombian peso strengthened to 2,812 per US dollar, its strongest level since November 2015, as the dollar fell sharply. The move followed comments by US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin that a weaker dollar was good for trade.
A stronger peso raises the local-currency cost of Colombian imports and the dollar's broad weakness supports dollar-denominated grain and meal prices, which tends to lift feed input costs for Colombian buyers.
