FAO's GIEWS issued a Special Alert warning that poor rains and heat have caused water stress across Southern Africa, reducing 2018 cereal harvests. Regional maize output hit a record in 2017, and cereal stocks remain ample.
Southern African crop losses are regional and mainly affect food-security imports, so they have limited direct effect on world feed grain prices given ample stocks.
