The FAO's update on highly pathogenic avian influenza in sub-Saharan Africa lists H5N1 confirmed in seven countries and H5N8 in seven countries. South Africa has reported 138 outbreaks to date, with 19 new since the last update, and Nigeria has reported 4.
Outbreaks in African poultry sectors reduce local poultry supply and can slow feed purchases. The effect on global feed prices is small at current scale.
