Two EU-commissioned studies conclude that EU action on deforestation is necessary and achievable, with one focusing on palm oil and the other on seven imported commodities including palm oil, soy, beef, maize, cocoa, rubber and coffee. The studies recommend tackling consumption, finance and production together.
Possible future EU rules on imports of soy, palm oil, and maize could eventually affect trade flows and prices for vegetable oils and feed inputs, but no measure has been adopted.
