ABARES forecasts Australian cattle prices will fall 8 percent in 2018-19 as the herd expands for a third year to 27.8 million head. Chilled beef export prices are expected to fall 4 percent on weaker Japanese demand, while frozen beef prices are forecast to rise 3 percent on tighter US cattle supplies.
A larger Australian herd and stronger US frozen beef demand shift global beef trade flows, with more Australian beef competing in markets that US product supplies.
