The rupee recovered 23 paise to close at 68.57 per dollar after touching a near five-year low the previous session, aided by RBI intervention and exporter dollar selling. Crude prices rose after Libya declared force majeure on some exports and Canadian supply losses lifted US crude.
Rupee moves affect the dollar cost of imported feed for Indian buyers, and the oil rally raises energy and freight costs. Libyan supply disruption adds to upward pressure on crude.
