The rupee fell 20 paise to close at 74.99 per dollar, its worst weekly loss since April, as crude oil and the dollar index rose. The Reserve Bank of India kept its repo rate at 4% with an accommodative stance and suspended its bond-buying quantitative easing programme.
The RBI's suspension of bond purchases and the rupee's weakness raise India's cost of dollar-priced imports. Higher crude prices add to the pressure on feed and freight costs.
