The US Grains Council said Mexico is the most important global market for US grains, buying a record 13.9 million tonnes of US corn in 2016/17 and the top share of DDGS. It noted that Mexico's new president-elect, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, adds uncertainty to the trade relationship.
Mexico's record purchases underline the exposure of US corn and DDGS prices to the NAFTA outcome and to the policy direction of the incoming Mexican government.
