India's proposed National Agriculture Export Policy, aimed at doubling farm exports to $60 billion by 2022, is being vetted at the inter-ministerial level before Cabinet approval. The policy emphasizes value-added and perishable products and is said to comply with WTO rules, with financing limited to marketing, promotion and infrastructure.
A structured export policy could gradually raise Indian shipments of farm products, but the policy is still pending and mainly targets value-added goods rather than bulk feed grains, so near-term price effects are limited.
