CME cattle and hog futures closed lower as Hurricane Florence threatened to reduce meat demand. October live cattle fell $0.85 to $109.30 and lean hog futures also slid.
Beef cutout values closed weak on light to moderate demand.
A hurricane-related disruption to meat consumption and processing in the Southeast can cut demand for meat and hog feed. The effect is likely temporary, so the price pressure may ease once the storm passes.
