The dollar reached a 16-month high against a basket of currencies on bets for a Federal Reserve rate hike in December. Sterling fell about 1% on no-deal Brexit fears, and the euro weakened over Italy's budget standoff.
The dollar index was up 0.66% at 97.54.
A stronger dollar makes US grain and meal exports more expensive for importers, which can weigh on export demand and prices. The rally was driven by rate expectations and European political risk.
