The Soy Transportation Coalition says flooded rivers closed to barge traffic are slowing farmers and grain traders who want to sell 2018 crop stocks after a recent price rebound. The Missouri River between St. Louis and Kansas City has reopened, but barge operations are limited to daylight and reduced tow sizes.
The Mississippi north of St. Louis has also reopened.
Restricted barge capacity delays farmer selling and export movement, keeping soybean and corn supplies tight at origin while freight costs stay elevated.
