On 23 July 2019 the European Commission adopted a communication setting out five priorities to protect existing forests, especially primary forests, and increase sustainable forest cover worldwide. Annexes list actions for the Commission and for EU national, regional and local authorities, industry and civil society.
Potential EU regulation of imported commodities such as palm oil, soy and beef could eventually tighten sourcing rules for feed-relevant soy and soymeal and palm products, though no binding measures were adopted yet.
