Chinese egg futures in Dalian rose almost 10% in under two weeks to 4,688 yuan per ton, the highest since November 2014, as African swine fever cut pork supply and boosted demand for chicken and eggs. Food makers are also buying eggs for mooncakes and egg tarts ahead of the mid-autumn festival.
Higher Chinese poultry demand from pork shortages can lift global demand for feed ingredients such as soymeal and corn as producers expand flocks, supporting feed prices.
