China has lifted its ban on beef imports from South Africa, which was imposed after South Africa lost its FMD-free status in January 2019. The decision follows an expert team visit to South Africa in June and China's earlier lifting of its ban on wool and animal skin imports.
Reopening the Chinese market gives South African beef exporters a new outlet, modestly easing domestic oversupply and adding to global beef trade flows.
