A Senate economic stimulus compromise would provide $9.5 billion to USDA for agriculture and let it replenish the Commodity Credit Corporation with up to $14 billion, down from a proposed $50 billion borrowing authority. The bill was awaiting a Senate vote and the House had not yet decided how to proceed.
Smaller CCC borrowing authority limits the scale of future trade aid, while the funding still supports farm incomes and feed demand in the near term.
