The USDA Grain Transportation Report for March 2020 says most movement and price indicators across rail, barge and ocean are down so far in 2020 versus 2019 and historical averages. Rail grain carloads are down 8 percent year to date, though they have ticked up recently, and railcar bids are well below average.
Weak grain shipments and low freight rates reflect soft export demand, which tends to weigh on basis and bids for feed grains at inland locations.
