Evonik's poultry nutrition manager says COVID-19 is pushing some animal producers to reformulate feed due to ingredient shortages. The biggest impact has been on DDGS production, which fell sharply after ethanol output dropped following the pandemic declaration in March 2020.
Lower ethanol output cuts DDGS supply, tightening availability of this corn-based feed ingredient and supporting its price, while pushing formulators toward substitutes.
