Fertilizer analysts say price volatility has become the norm after supply disruptions, including Hurricane Ida, COVID-19 logistics problems and China halting phosphate and nitrogen exports. Natural gas drives about 80% of ammonium nitrate and 65% of urea production costs.
Export restrictions from China and gas-driven cost swings keep fertilizer supply tight and unpredictable, which raises input costs for grain and feed producers.
