Grain producers and elevator operators in southeast Saskatchewan are preparing for a possible CP Rail strike by more than 3,000 employees. Local terminals already face backlogs and have no alternative rail route, so grain could be stuck in elevators until a settlement.
Without rail access, stranded grain limits shipments and can widen local basis discounts while export supplies tighten. The impact depends on whether the strike actually occurs.
