The National Grain and Feed Association urged the Canadian Industrial Relations Board to prevent a rail strike or lockout, warning of ripple effects across agriculture. It said trucking is impractical for many high-volume agricultural shippers.
A rail stoppage would disrupt feed grain deliveries to livestock operations and could depress Canadian farmgate prices while raising shipping costs. The risk is mainly a logistics cost and regional basis issue.
