The U.S. Grains Council reports that March corn futures rose 51.5 cents, or 11.9%, in recent sessions, with new contract highs in eight straight trading days. The rally followed Argentina's drought, which left early corn in poor condition, and a government ban on new corn export sales until March 1, 2021.
Strikes at Argentine ports also affected exports.
Argentina's export ban removes a major source of global corn supply through the first quarter of 2021, which supports prices for US corn and soybeans. Buyers of feed grains should expect elevated prices while the ban and dryness persist.
