US Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said Mexico's GMO corn ban would apply only to corn for human food and not to feed-grade corn, based on talks with Mexico's agriculture secretary. He also said the impact would be smaller than a full ban.
If feed corn is exempt, Mexico's major US corn import demand for livestock feed is protected, which supports US corn export prices.
