The All India Poultry Breeders Association asked the government to cut soybean meal import duty to zero for five months because domestic soybean prices have doubled in a year to Rs 81,000 per tonne. The group said global prices are about half of Indian levels and that poultry farmers are reducing chick placements.
Tight Indian supply and high domestic prices could prompt duty cuts that pull in meal imports, supporting world meal demand. Reduced poultry placements would lower feed demand locally over time.
