The US Army Corps of Engineers reduced Missouri River navigation flow support by 1,500 cubic feet per second for the second half of the season due to drought in the upper basin. The navigation season will run a full eight months, ending December 1, 2021, at St. Louis.
Lower river flows constrain barge drafts on the Missouri and Mississippi, which can raise barge freight costs and slow grain movement from the Midwest to Gulf export terminals.
