The first shipment of Geographical Indication certified Bhalia wheat from Gujarat was exported to Kenya and Sri Lanka. Official figures show India's wheat exports rose sharply in 2020-21, and shipments went to seven new countries.
The shipment is small and niche, so its direct price effect on wheat is limited, though it reflects India's growing export role.
