US grain and soybean futures hit multi-week lows on August 31 as Hurricane Ida caused power outages and damage to Gulf Coast export facilities. Cargill's elevator was damaged, ADM closed New Orleans operations, and CHS warned a facility may lack power for weeks.
The Gulf Coast handles about 60% of US exports, so prolonged closures would delay shipments and widen basis, pressuring cash prices while raising freight costs for feed buyers.
