Palm oil futures in Malaysia rose about 3.8% to 4,929 ringgit per ton as speculative buying and strong demand supported prices. Chicago soybean oil futures fell 1.9% after the US government proposed cutting the biofuel volumes refiners must blend in 2022.
Indonesia extended its B30 biodiesel program into 2022 and raised its palm oil production forecast.
The proposed US biofuel volume cut removes a major demand pillar for soybean oil, pressuring prices, while palm oil gains on Indonesian biodiesel demand and strong import interest. The divergence shifts vegetable oil demand toward palm.
