China Feed Industry Association data show Q1 2022 feed output of 67.2 million tons, up 3.1% year on year but down 14% month on month. Pig feed output fell in January and March, and farmers cut feeding amounts due to losses from high costs and epidemics.
Lower pig feed volumes reduce Chinese demand for corn, soymeal and other feed ingredients, which is bearish for those markets, while high ingredient costs continue to squeeze producers.
