Indian animal feed makers argued at a workshop for allowing GM corn and soybeans, citing demand from ethanol and starch producers that has lifted raw material prices. Bt cotton is currently the only GM crop permitted for commercial cultivation in India.
If India permitted GM feed grains, supply could expand and ease domestic corn and soymeal costs, but this is only a lobbying push with no policy decision yet.
