The EU deforestation regulation, due to take effect this year, bans agricultural products linked to deforestation and forest degradation after 31 December 2020. Companies must trace commodities back to the plots of land where they were produced.
Traceability requirements could raise sourcing costs and push buyers toward alternate suppliers, though trade flow shifts are expected to be gradual. Feed-relevant soy, palm oil and meat supplies into the EU could face added compliance costs.
