China's second-quarter pork output reached 13.78 million tonnes, the highest for the period since at least 2015, after farmers rebuilt sow numbers in 2020 and 2021. Farmers lost money for most of the first half, with margins turning positive only in June, and heavy sow culling could cut output later in 2022.
Record pork supply lowers hog prices and farmer margins, which pressures feed purchases in the near term. Potential later culling could tighten supply and support feed demand in H2.
