The USDA Grain Transportation Report for August 11 showed U.S. diesel prices fell below $5 per gallon for the first time since March, though still far above last year. Shipping costs for soybeans remain sharply higher than a year earlier across truck, barge and ocean routes.
Elevated freight and fuel costs widen the basis and raise landed costs for feed ingredients, while easing diesel prices offer modest relief to shippers.
