India permitted duty-free exports of 600,000 tonnes of paddy to Nepal, effective October 31, 2022, and also allowed duty-free exports of organic non-basmati rice. Steamed rice shipments to Nepal had been held up after customs treated them as white rice under the September curbs.
The Nepal allowance adds a modest export outlet for Indian paddy, slightly easing regional supply tightness and weighing on rice prices.
