Beef councils in Oklahoma, Texas and Kansas published an 86-page report by Derrell Peel and Glynn Tonsor estimating that cutting US beef trade could cost the agricultural economy more than $120 billion. The report was commissioned amid political debate involving R-CALF and other industry groups over curbing beef trade.
Political pressure to curtail beef imports and exports could affect cattle demand and price if it advances into policy. The report itself is an economic analysis and does not change trade rules, so near-term price impact is modest.
