Indonesia's state food agency Bulog approached rice exporters outside India to buy rice for domestic needs, and sought at least 0.5 million tonnes. Indian exporters objected that Bulog was overlooking Indian rice, which is the only source of the broken rice it wants.
A sizeable Indonesian tender for rice would draw demand from Thai and Vietnamese supplies, which tends to support export prices.
