Beef prices remain high after a multi-year drought in US cattle regions reduced herd size. Higher operating costs for fuel, equipment and labor, along with expensive feedlot inputs including grain, have raised the cost of raising and fattening cattle.
Reduced cattle numbers and higher feeding costs keep fed cattle and feeder prices elevated, and corn and feed-grain costs feed into the expense of finishing animals.
