Unionized port workers at Silopor, the state-owned corporation that handles storage and shipment for most grain in Portugal, went on strike on January 31, 2024. They are demanding salary increases and resolution of other grievances.
A strike at the main grain handling port can delay imports and exports of grain and feed ingredients, tightening local supply and supporting short-term regional basis and freight costs.
