FranceAgriMer reported that 63% of French soft wheat was rated good or excellent by April 22, down from 64% the week before and 94% a year earlier. That is the poorest rating for the time of year since 2020.
Winter barley and maize sowing also lagged, with maize 26% planted against a five-year average of 51%.
Poor French crop conditions raise the risk of a smaller harvest from the EU's largest wheat producer, which supports wheat prices. Delayed maize planting adds to the weather risk for feed grains.
