Shipping carriers are diverting sailings as the threat of a Canadian rail strike grows, after talks between CN, CPKC and the Teamsters stalled. Both railways rejected a union proposal to stagger negotiations, and CN said it is no closer to a deal.
Carrier diversions and a possible rail stoppage would delay cargo moving through Canadian ports and rail corridors, adding freight costs and supporting export-linked grain prices.
