Feeder cattle prices in Queensland and New South Wales rose 10-20c/kg after last week's rain disrupted supply. EU-compliant Angus steers are trading at a further 10c/kg premium ahead of EU deforestation import rules that start December 30 and require GPS coordinates.
The EU deforestation rules create a traceability premium for compliant cattle, which tightens supply of eligible feeder steers. Higher feeder costs raise the cost of feeding Australian beef cattle for export.
