Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said her government will present a plan in the coming days to protect non-GM white corn under the constitution. Mexico is self-sufficient in white corn but imports GM yellow corn from the US, mainly for livestock feed.
A constitutional ban on GM corn could reduce long-term Mexican demand for US yellow corn feed imports, a key export market for corn.
